The story begins during the Sung Dynasty of ancient China. The country is in great chaos due to the infamous Jin Kang Rebellion. Fearing the possible destruction that is sure to ensue, Concubine Liu tearfully entrusts the care of her baby daughter, Princess Yi Fu, to a common citizen named Tang Hui. Tang Hui immediately escapes with the princess to the south. And so, Princess Yi Fu’s whereabouts become a mystery.
Now, ten years later, the Tang have returned to power and the great family wishes for all exiled family members to return. But Zi Li is happy with her life. She knows that returning means giving up her love; for a peasant could never court a princess. And courtship between a princess and a palace warrior is equally frowned upon. But that does little to quell the fire that burns inside Zhong Lu,a famed warrior charged with the task of finding and restoring the princess to the throne. – MangaFox
This was actually a real cute historical manhua by Yi Huan, unfortunately with a love triangle (later becomes a square or pentagon or something) straight out of your average shoujo manga. The art was nice and reminded me of Basara, with clean lines and cute faces, while still maintaining the shoujo sparkles. I mean, personally I prefer my bishounen a tad manlier, but hey, you take what you’re given.
The plot itself was enjoyable yet predictable, but I can’t help feeling the plot and character depth could have been more developed. To be honest, it probably could have been better executed by another author to get some emotional attatchment to the characters and a more complex plot. Like, say, Red Road, From Far Away and all that jazz, except for maybe not as long.
But, you know for a nice cute historical manhua it was enjoyable, with no outstanding problems, (exept it was once mentioned that one of the main love intrests was sick and had daily medicine to take, then no more was made of it, but thats not serious, just irritating), and a pleasing flow and ending.
Yeah, 4/5 on the manga (series) scale, not 5/5 because frankly, it wasnt that exciting, it was just nice and without major flaws.
