“It’s the year 2020 AD, and Tokyo is a city infested with crime. Women can no longer go out in the streets alone without being victimized. Not wanting their daughter to suffer the same fate, Tsukasa Kozuki’s cop parents raise her as a boy. When they are suddenly killed by one of the yakuza’s in-fights, Tsukasa is left orphaned on the streets along with her three brothers. With no other options, she goes to the only person she can think of for help: pokerface Ryuji Shirogami, her classmate of 8 years and also the head leader of the powerful yakuza group, Kuryugumi. Ryuji, whose father was also a victim of the same yakuza fight, agrees to take her on as his personal bodyguard. As they set out to find their enemy, Ryuji slaps on an increasing amount of debt onto Tsukasa using all manners of ploys necessary to keep the reluctant Tsukasa by his side.” – mangafox
This was my fourth time reading this manga, and I dont think I shall ever tire of it. Action, drama, comedy, romance, an EXCELLENT plotline alongside EXCELLENT characters… so much detail, Nakamura-sensei surely is a genius lady. Gosh, how I love her. I went looking for other work of hers after reading skip beat and waiting for updates, and fell in love with her storytelling. Seriously, she is my all time favourite mangaka, despite having done few scantilated works. I only wish i could buy TCP in English.
TCP is a work of art. Her art, meanwhile, I hated at first. But, personally, I grew to love it as I fell in love with them and the story they were in. The chracters tend to have abnormally small heads, but dont worry, you get used to it. Besides, the storytelling and plot more than make up for it.
As its a nice 19 volume manga, there are quite a few arcs, each unique and adding new depths to characters and their backstories, and slowly developing the big overall plot and Ryuji’s and Tsukasa’s love. The comedy was perfectly timed, along side drama and heart breaking moments further on in the manga. You fall in love with each character- The stone faced pervy Ryuji, the baka yet awesome Tsukasa, the possesive pressured yet eventually sweet Asago…. and among others Kamo san, the sweetest of the lot. When you find out his backstory … my lord. And the plots that develop them make this an have-to-try-very-hard-to-get-any-sleep-its-that-good-you-cant-stop-reading sort of manga. I really love it that much. In fact love is the key word for me when it comes to Nakamura sensei. I just cant fault her work.
The romance was slow developing, yet that was perfect. Nakamura sensei doesnt do your cliche kiss and sparkle shojou, she develops a story you will want to read again and again, purely to see the scenes that made you go “YEAH! KILL THAT BITCH!”-if you have read this manga, you ought to know what im refering to. In fact, there are multiple times this could be used.
All in all, this is probably my second favourite manga (after skip beat) and I strongly strongly strongly implore you to read it.Its got yakuza in it. And badass fighting. And romance. And bishounen. And love triangle X2 wait no X3 (only just realised how many love triangles, and thats not even including the competition for the position of seisai). And robotic animals. And terrorisim. And secret identities. And drama. And fjjfhj@raag#nvjbkgurevcajbcje3!(<overload of amazingness).ITS JUST AWESOME, OKAY?!
10/5 stars. yeah, its imposiburu, yet deserved.
